Premessa

Ci proponiamo di presentare uno strumento utile alla ricerca a tutti i livelli – dallo studente che inizia a muovere i primi passi nello studio di Peirce allo studente di specialistica, di dottorato, o allo studioso di professione. Per questa ragione, presentiamo una bibliografia ragionata, che mette in luce le fonti primarie (manoscritti e le loro edizioni) e che articola la letteratura secondaria in chiave tematica. Abbiamo quindi due sezioni legate alla produzione italiana (“Scuola Italiana”), una sezione di opere generali e biografiche, e una divisione per ambito (ad es. fenomenologico, logico, semiotico) di opere italiane e internazionali su Peirce. Originariamente basata sulla letteratura secondaria in volume, questa bibliografia oggi presenta anche molti articoli, che riflettono la pratica contemporanea della ricerca accademica. Fonti primarie

Peirce pubblicò un impressionante numero di articoli, recensioni, relazioni scientifiche nella sua vita, ma ancora più impressionante è il suo lascito manoscritto: si stima circa 100,000 fogli di bozze e appunti (fonte: Houghton Library website), di cui 50,000 fogli sono ancora inediti. Questo materiale è conservato alla Houghton Library, Harvard. Qui di seguito presentiamo una lista dei volumi, editi da studiosi di Peirce, contenenti gran parte della produzione edita di Peirce e una parte della produzione inedita. Tutte queste edizioni rappresentano una fonte importante per chi studia Peirce, per vari motivi. Edizioni storiche, come i Collected Papers o Chance, Love and Logic,hanno costituito a lungo il principale veicolo della trasmissione del pensiero di Peirce. Il materiale raccolto nei Collected Papers è organizzato in modo tematico anziché cronologico ed è oggi soprattutto interessante dal punto di vista della storia della ricezione del pensiero di Peirce, o per reperire quei passaggi che non compaiono nelle edizioni critiche più aggiornate. L’edizione critica delle opere di Peirce è i Writings of Charles S. Peirce: a Chronological Edition. Ad oggi (2020) sono stati pubblicati i volumi 1-6, 8, che coprono il periodo 1857-1892. L’antologia The Essential Peirce è un’importante risorsa; particolarmente utile è il v.2, edito dal Peirce Edition Project, che raccoglie scritti essenziali di Peirce nel periodo 1893-1913. Edizioni recenti, come Logic of the Future che raccoglie gran parte dei manoscritti di logica di Charles S. Peirce (Pietarinen 2019) o Selected Writings on Semiotics 1894–1912, una selezione dei manoscritti sulla semiotica del Peirce maturo (Bellucci 2020), pur non essendo edizioni critiche, hanno l’obiettivo di fornire risorse per uno studio rigoroso, dal punto di vista storico e filologico, del pensiero di Peirce. Guarda come citare per i nostri suggerimenti in questo ambito. Qui di seguito le edizioni sono riportate in ordine cronologico, precedute dalle abbreviazioni solitamente usate nelle pubblicazioni scientifiche.
